In my past life as a computer chess programmer, I built up a wonderful collection of Computer Chess literature, including many books and journals.

The most valuable of this material has been donated to the University of Manitoba Library. For each book, I provide the call number. The Library's catalogue is available online.

How To Obtain The Books Listed On This Page

I donated my collection to our University's library in order to make it available to anyone who is interested. The material is available at the library for reference, and the library has reciprocal arrangements for interlibrary loan with many other public and university libraries. First check at your local library to see if the have the book you want. If not, they may be able to obtain it through inter-library loan for you.

If you wish to purchase a copy of a book for yourself, you will first have to find an outlet that can find the book for you. Almost all of the books listed are out-of-print, and there were not a great number of each printed. As a result, they may be hard to find for purchase and used copies may have inflated prices. One possible source that may be able to get some of these books for you is Amazon. I have provided links to Amazon.com, Amazon.ca and Amazon.co.uk beside each book to provide additional info.

Computer Chess has come a long way. It still has a long way to go. Read some of these books, and enjoy the journey.

My Donations to the University of Manitoba

These were journals and books from my own collection that helped me begin and refine my own Computer Chess program, Brute Force. I highly recommend this material to anyone interested in Computer Chess.
